Photo I

This class explores the basics of traditional black and white photographic printing as well as digital photographic processes using Adobe Photoshop. We will examine both the aesthetic and technical aspects of the photographic process through several method based assignments. The uses of metering, lighting, composition, and technical aspects of the camera will be reviewed during class to give students a basic understanding of the art of photography.

Extra Credit Choice Board

4/10/2017

This lists out all of the projects that are on the choice spinner board in the classroom. Each project below gives you more information on what to photograph as well as some inspiration images.

All extra credit projects are to be passed into the "extra credit" assignment in google classroom (there is 1 each quarter). You can add multiple extra credit projects into each quarter and I will review them at the end of every quarter. You do not need to print or mount these photos—but you can if you love them!

TEXTURE:
For texture you should be focused on anything with a texture. Focus on natural elements—bark, rocks, leaves—or man-made items like fabrics, food, bricks, or anything where you can show an interesting texture.

LOOK UP:

For look up you should be photographing images from underneath. Try underneath a table, below a pipe outside, up the side of the building, or anywhere that you can confuse your audience by way of your different point of view.

LINES:

Let's focus on lines! These can be leading lines, architectural lines, concrete lines, etc. Almost any lines will work for this challenge.

PORTRAIT EFFECT:

This is more of a new tools/tutorial project than a shooting project. Check out this youtube tutorial for portrait effect. You are taking as new portrait and adding this effect via Photoshop.

NATURAL FRAMING:
In natural framing we are using natural and organic items to frame out our image (think doorways, trees, fences, etc.). The point is to create a natural frame
FLAT LAY:
For flat lay (sometimes also called a lay-flat) you are arranging objects in an interesting manner and photographing them from directly above. Think about collections, or different shapes, or what about items that go together, or everything in your bag laid out in a compelling way. Many different objects work for this challenge, but make it curious!

HOT & COLD:
Using juxtaposition and contrast as your focus, put two objects together in a photo that are as different from one another as hot & cold. Different sized chairs, angry & happy emotions, healthy & unhealthy foods—tons of different ideas for ways to explore contrast through your images.
ANTS VIEW:
Think like an ant! Focusing on an extremely low point of view (think lying on the ground) you are taking photos with a new and interesting perspective. Notice how far away things are in your frame, or how can you make something like a leaf wrap around and frame your composition.

PHOTO CARICATURE:
If you have ever had a caricature drawn of you then you know how fun they can be! Taking any portrait you've done this year, turn them into a caricature by enlarging their head and embellishing their features.

Click here for a tutorial on how to make this happen!
POWER WORD:
Choose any word that you feel is powerful and any image you have taken and combine them to create something powerful. Learn how to make a word out of any image.

Check out this tutorial to create a power word.
