Using either Wix or Weebly (both free website platforms) create a website that shows off all the work you have created this year and even last year. This should be a professional looking website. [Hey, some of my students have even used these sites to sell their work or start a portrait photography business.] You can use your full name or make up a business name. You should have only your photographs in here (and maybe a bio pic taken by someone else), and include your portfolio and strongest work. I have included a few student examples below that were created here at school. 
Assignment:

For this final project you are creating your own website. It will have an about page, showcase your final portfolio of work, and give us an idea of who you are as an artist and photographer. How you choose to represent these things is ultimately up to you. Your about page can be serious or silly, you can showcase your images as tiles, or in a slideshow, or by scrollbar. The home page can be a simple landing page or be very busy. You can attach your artist instagram or not. I've given you a few websites to look at for great ideas and then two free websites to use for the actual creation. You do NOT need to pay for a template or a domain, this can all be done for free. 

Steps:
1. Look at Tonic Site Shop, Pro Photo, Squarespace, and Bludomain for some professional examples 
2. Once you decide on an overall look and style (do I like dark and moody, or bright and airy, serious or silly) then go to Wix and Weebly and decide which has a template that you'd prefer to work with (both are great!)
3. Choose a name and make a logo for your website (there are tons of free online logo makers)
4. Create a site that has a few pages, at least PORTFOLIO, ABOUT, CONTACT
5. Decide if your want your portfolio to be tiled, scrollbar, or slideshow
6. Publish the site before you pass it in (I cannot see it until you have published it)

Self portraiture is one of the most important things to explore as an artist. Yes, it is difficult but it also can be really enlightening to put yourself in front of the camera—especially for those of us photographers who always  want to hide behind the lens. In this project you will explore the idea of self portrait and how you want to convey yourself to your audience. You can play with ideas of dressing differently, hiding your face, describing yourself without your face in the image, and becoming part of an environment. This is for fun and for play and for experimenting!
Artists to consider: Francesca Woodman, Cindy Sherman, Kyle Thompson, Torrance Hall 
Assignment:

You are to shoot 50 digital frames (yes 50) of self portraits. Remember to experiment and play with the idea of what a self portrait is and what it means. I do not want to see really "pretty" portraits, these should explore the idea of portrait and be an expressive image of who you are as a person

-You must photograph at least one close up image of yourself
-You will pass in a contact sheet of 10 images, 3 main images, and print 1 8x10.

Things to think about:
  • No "pretty" portraits and NO SELFIES!!!
  • You can hide your face for some of the images if you want
  • Consider angles, colors, and spaces around you...maybe you even blend into your environment
  • You can either use the self-timer, a remote, or have someone "take" the photo after you set it up
  • These can be photographed indoors or outdoors, at night or during the day

Conceptual art and photography is something that each artist will explore in their career. How do we convey an idea, especially a larger more complex idea? What about what you want to say about your culture, your life, your emotional state, the world you live in, social issues, or anything that you truly believe in. Conceptual photography is taking one of these larger ideas and finding a way to convey that concept through your photography. For this first project you are going to have a directed shoot to start to get at the meat of emotion and personal point of view. 
Assignment:

For this first project you have a directed shoot to show and convey emotion in your photography. Please shoot these 6 images this weekend:

1. Self portrait conveying emotion (this can be happy, or sad, or a much more complex emotion)
2. Show me an object that conveys anger
3. Show me anxiety in an image
4. Show me body language that conveys sadness
5. Show me a landscape that is quiet
6. Show me absence in an image
